Almeria Attractions

Almeria is one of the most visited resorts on the Andalusian coast, and it’s not just for the sunshine! If you want to find out what you can get up to on your Almeria holiday, just read our top tips below.

Almeria beaches:

  • Agua Amarga Beach is a great place for all beach activities including swimming, diving and beach sports. There’s also a lifeguard on duty during the summer months so it’s popular with families.
  • Almerimar beach is not only great for beach fun; it also extends to a nature reserve which is very popular with bird watchers.
  • If you hire a car, there are loads of fantastic beaches to explore on the Costa de Almeria. Try El Monsul Beach, EL Lancon and Garrucha Beach for a change of scenery.

Almeria activities:

  • The eighth century Moorish fortress, The Alcazabar is the top attraction of Almeria and well worth an afternoon’s trip. You’ll also find some Roman remains near the castle too.
  • You could also visit the San Cristobal Castle and Almeria’s stunning cathedral.
  • The Archaeological Musuem of Almeria charts the area’s history and is packed with artefacts and archaeological finds.
  • The Paseo de Coches is a new landscaped beachside path which is lovely for an afternoon’s stroll in the sunshine.
  • Head to Oasys theme park with the kids and you won’t be disappointed.

Almeria nightlife:

  • Nightlife in Almeria is very ‘Spanish’ so expect plenty of tapas bars, live music and fiestas.
  • Some of the best restaurants in town are to be found on Puerta de Purchena at the end of the Paseo de Almeria but you’ll also find some fashionable places on the venida de Frederico Garcia.
  • The two biggest nightclubs are ‘Discoal’ on the Calle de las Tiendas and ‘Discoteca Lord Nelson’ on the Calle Canonigo Molina Alfonso so head to either to party all night long.

Other attractions near Almeria:

  • Take a trip to the Cabo de Gata Nijar National Park where you can explore the volcanic, semi-arid landscape, bird watch, sunbathe on black sand and most importantly, scuba dive in one of the most amazing spots on the southern Spanish coast.
