An Andalucian pueblo blanco or white village, Arcos de la Frontera perches atop a rocky ridge with the most spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. Look up towards Arcos de la Frontera and you could possibly think that the village was about to tumble down the sheer cliff face down to the River Guadalete!

The old town of Arcos de la Frontera in Costa de la Luz has been declared a national monument and is a maze of cobbled streets leading to the Castillo de los Arcos, a sandstone castle. As you meander through Arcos de la Frontera you will not only delight at the wonderful scenic views but also at the elegant homes built by 18th century nobles. In the heart of old Arcos de la Frontera there are a number of tapas bars and elegant restaurants. Tours in English of Arcos de la Frontera can be arranged at the tourist office in the town. The newer town has developed on the lower slopes.

During the summer take a trip to the Lago de Arcos which is a reservoir great for swimming. Part of the reservoir is a protected area as it is a stopping point for migratory birds.
