Thought to be the oldest city in Europe, Cadiz on the Costa de la Luz was founded in 1100BC. Today there are some remaining parts of the city’s 18th century walls, but for picturesque charm, a trip to the old quarter of Cadiz, reflects some more of its historic links, with narrow cobbled streets, Moorish appearance and the golden cupola of the cathedral high above the white washed houses.
There are a number of museums and monuments to visit in Cadiz as well as many restaurants, especially tapas bars, and a good selection of shops. Nature lovers will enjoy the Donana National Park which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Nestled between the Portugese border and Spain’s Costa del Sol, is the Costa de la Luz or “Coast of Light”.
The sand is finer and more golden than Costa del Sol, and the beaches are generally more spread out and backed by sand dunes and pine trees. You can choose from natural, virgin beaches to others with facilities and infrastructure, from small isolated coves and fishing ports to beaches stretching for miles, and from family beaches to others more secluded.

There is a huge selection of water sports, golf, fishing, gliding and mountain biking, and the Bay of Cadiz annually hosts the “Tall Ships” regatta.
