Costa Dorada Holidays

Costa Dorada holidays uncovered- Insider Tips

With miles of undisturbed, gorgeous beaches, Costa Dorada holidays offer a truly perfect destination to unwind and relax in without being jostled by thousands of other tourists. lowcostholidays.com insider tips give you the low down on what exactly the ‘Golden Coast’ has to offer.

When is the best time to go?

April to October is the most popular time to visit Costa Dorada due to the warm weather and cool summer breezes. It is also recommended to visit Costa Dorada during February and March when there are lively Spanish Fiestas taking place.

Relaxing days...

The coastline of Costa Dorada boasts some of the best sandy beaches in Europe. The golden sands are paired nicely with the crystal clear water. Careful though, the sea is shallow; so don’t go diving in, only to be greeted by the bottom. Furthermore if relaxing gets too strenuous, all the town resorts have a mix between modern and old that makes for engaging holidays. Visit the monasteries on offer or try Tarragona – a historical city with a fabulous personality.

If all of this relaxing and exploring is too tame for you, Costa Dorada also boasts one of the best theme parks in Europe – Port Aventura. Built as a joint effort by Tussauds (of Alton Towers fame) and Universal (of Orlando fame), you can see why this park is well worth the visit.

Hidden Gems

Not quite a hidden gem, more a delightful add on is the excellent transport facilities that allow you to get from Costa Dorada to Barcelona in a couple of hours. Having a city steeped in architecture and culture just a hop and a skip away makes it perfect for a day trip from Costa Dorada.

How’s the shopping?

All along Costa Dorada there is a selection of quaint little shops selling souvenirs, ceramics and leather. If you’re a little more dedicated to shopping and know your Manolo Blahnik’s from your Clarks, then Barcelona is a short bus ride away for fashion boutiques aplenty.

Food glorious food…

Costa Dorada has a reputation for its seafood restaurants (strange, being on the sea and all), so it’s well worth checking out what they have to offer. If you enjoy the odd glass of wine (or bottle), it is of high quality and in no shortage on the Golden Coast. Try El Molí de Cal Tof which is located in an old windmill in Tarragona.

The mandatory worries

Here’s some important information to remember when you’re on your holiday to Costa Dorada:

Can I drink the water?

  • It is safe to drink in city areas, but if you want to be 100% safe, stick with the bottled stuff!

What’s the 999 number?

  • Spanish emergency services can be contacted on 112.

Shall I pack the sun cream?

  • It’s not called the Golden Coast because the sun bronzes you skin – you won’t have a glorious golden tan unless you slap on the sun cream first.

How do I get around?

  • Taxis are reasonably priced but most attractions, including the beach, should be within walking distance of your hotel.

Shall I learn the local lingo?

  • You don’t have to as most of the big resorts will speak good English. However if you want to impress the locals try out a few phrases before you go.

Do I need to tip?

  • Adding a few extra coins to the bill will show appreciation for a good meal.
