Salou Insider Tips

Are you hoping to get off the beaten track on your holidays to Salou. Check out our insider tips to really make the most of your time in this gorgeous location.

Looking for natural beauty on your holidays to Salou?

Cape Salou is just a few miles to the north of Salou, and offers stunning, unspoilt and hilly landscapes. It is easily reached by the Plana bus which costs a couple of Euros. Alternatively it can be accessed by the little tourist train that runs regularly, great fun for the younger kids and the adults with a young side. The coast line is rocky, and dominated by steep cliffs offering fantastic views of the oceans. The perfect place for a quick snap!

Check out Reus

Most people who visit Salou will fly in to the airport of Reus. Visitors that immediately look for their transfer to Salou are missing out on what’s right in front of them because Reus itself is well worth a visit. It has a lot to offer, particularly in terms of museums and both cultural and historical monuments. In fact, the much beloved and world-famous Spanish artist, Antoni Gaudi, was born here in 1852, and appreciators have made a visit to his birth town something of a pilgrimage.

Check out Tarragona

Tarragona is only a few kilometres east along the coast from Salou, and it is easy to find buses running that route. Here you can admire some of the best preserved ruins of the Iberian Peninsula, one of which is a Roman Amphitheatre. Tarragona also has the usual shops, restaurants, cafes and beaches, making it an excellent place for a day out on your Costa Dorada holidays

Head to the beach

Some holiday-makers are happy to stroll no further than the two main beaches of Salou, Llevant and Ponent, but those keen on exploring will soon find that this idyllic spot has much more to offer. Head out towards Cape Salou, and go up the hill there to find perfectly secluded spots to picnic, relax and sunbathe. The extra walk is well worth the effort for those looking for a bit of peace and quiet.

If the hustle and bustle of busy beaches is exactly your thing, then make sure you head to the main beaches early. Llevant and Ponent fill up fast, so bagsy your spot to guarantee the best lounging, swimming and tanning.
