Fuerteventura is the perfect place to visit for a relaxing holiday in the sunshine. Warm weather all year round, partnered with crystal blue seas. However you plan to spend your holiday, let lowcostholidays.com keep you in the loop with our insider tips.

When is the best time to go?

Fuerteventura enjoys 320 days of sunshine throughout the year and very little rain. May to August is peak season, with eleven hours of sunshine a day. You can catch various music festivals throughout the summer including an international jazz festival.

Fuerteventura nights out

Unlike its neighbouring islands, Fuerteventura has a more relaxed family based atmosphere. Instead of being encouraged to drink yourself silly, you can enjoy excellent restaurants and great live music performances. Much of the entertainment is based around the hotels (great if you don’t want to stray away from the pool even at night), with a variety of nights such as quizzes, cabaret and the British favourite, karaoke. The perfect chance to listen to those who didn’t even get on X factor’s first round reject list.

If you do want to experience a lively night out try Corralejo, the busiest resort. Why not dust off your Iron Maiden t-shirt and re-arrange your perm at Rock Island, which features nights of live rock acts and a couple of old classics!

Hidden Gems

Try arranging your holiday at a time when Fuerteventura is celebrating a fiesta. Carnival processions take place, there will be a party atmosphere and you’ll feel like you’ve ended up in Brazil or Notting Hill. Enjoy the carnival atmosphere and soak up the sun.

Also, it’s not quite the hidden gem, but Fuerteventura is famed for its excellent selection of water sports, so try your hand at surfing or jet-skiing to give you some adrenaline rushes.

How’s the shopping?

Fuerteventura has recently turned into a shopper’s paradise with the opening of Las Rotondas. Here you will find UK retailers such as H&M as well as Spanish brands like Zara.

Don’t forget that due to the duty-free status on tobacco, alcohol and perfume – they are much cheaper – but don’t forget the travelling limits.

Food glorious food…

Fuerteventura offers you everything you could possibly want from Chinese to Italian with a bit of British thrown in for good measure. Goat is of paticular significance to the area, goat’s cheese and goats stew are their specialities so if you fancy a little escapade into their cuisine, give some a try?

The mandatory worries

Travelling to a foreign country can be a daunting prospect, so here is some important information to remember when you’re on your holiday to Fuerteventura:

Can I drink the water?

  • You can drink it, but we do not recommend it. Bottled is best.

What’s the 999 number?

  • Fuerteventura emergency services can be contacted on 112.

Shall I pack the sun cream?

  • To avoid being mistaken for a lobster for the rest of your holiday, it is highly recommended. Remember, the sun shines all year round.

How do I get around?

  • The island provides a bus service called Tiadhe, which is a fairly reliable and economical route. Taxis are also a lot cheaper than in the UK and well kept.

Shall I learn the local lingo?

  • There is really no need as most people will speak good English. If you want to impress (or chat up) some of the locals, why not learn a few phrases for a bit of banter?

Do I need to tip?

  • It’s not compulsory, but adding a little 5-10% will show your appreciation of a good meal.
