Maspalomas holidays uncovered - insider tips

Whatever you decide to do on your holidays to Maspalomas, lowcostholidays.com’s insider tips will help you discover your perfect holiday experience.

Spectacular nights out

You will find something for everyone in Maspalomas, from karaoke to jazz and live bands to themed pubs. The Maspalomas Plaza is home to a few bars where you can do a bit of bar hopping before hitting the clubs. It might be worth you having a little disco kip before you head out as most of the clubs won’t open till midnight. Entry to the clubs is free, but drinks can be expensive!

Hidden Gems

The Maspalomas dunes are hardly hidden, as they stretch for miles and can be reached by walking along the beach. Why not take a camel ride or a horse ride along the dunes for the ultimate experience, be aware though, you may bump in to some of the nudists bathing on the beaches. Make sure you wear your flip flops too, the sand is too hot to walk on.

How’s the shopping?

The Faro II shopping centre is a shopaholic’s paradise, brimming with designer boutiques and clothes stores. You’ll find that cigarettes, alcohol, cameras, electrical goods are a lot cheaper than England too, so you may want to stock up before you head home.

Where can I get a burger?

There’s a wide range of restaurants in Maspalomas catering for all tastes and cuisines. An excellent choice is the “Restaurante Bali” where you can grab some excellent Indonesian and Balinese dishes and for that perfect romantic meal you could check out the “Restaurante Grill Faro” that overlooks the sea with pretty candle-lit tables.

You can eat for as little as 5-10 Euros in Maspalomas if you’re on a budget and between 10-15 Euros for a decent meal.

Get in with the locals...

Going on holiday to a new country can be quite daunting, so here’s some information to remember when you’re on your Maspalomas holidays:

Can I drink the water?

  • It’s not something we recommend, so stick to bottled water.

What’s the 999 number?

  • Gran Canaria emergency services can be contacted on 112.

Shall I pack the sun cream?

  • Sun cream is recommended, unless you want to look like a lobster!

How do I get around?

  • Taxis are cheap and the best way to get around, but just make sure you agree a price before you jump in.

Shall I learn the local lingo?

  • A lot of the establishments are British run and the locals seem to have a pretty good handle on the language so you don’t really need to learn the lingo.

Do I need to tip?

  • Tipping ranges from 5% to 10%, it's not compulsory but a good sign of appreciation if you’ve had an enjoyable meal.
