La Palma is one of the five beautiful Canary Islands. The island has its own airport so you can fly directly to La Palma from the UK, or from neighbouring Canary Islands such as Tenerife and Lanzarote. La Palma is wonderfully tranquil, perfect for those looking for peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings. Many know La Palma as “La Isla Bonita” which means “the beautiful island”. A trip to La Palma will guarantee beautiful views with the island's stunning scenery all around. Take a walking trip to the mighty volcanoe La Caldera de Taburiente to experience some of the best and most beautiful views the island has to offer. The island actually has seven terrific volcanoes which are ideal for those that enjoy walking holidays. Hiking, cycling, horse riding, diving, dolphin and whale watching are some of the many things to do in la Palma.
The evenings on the island are spent enjoying tapas, good traditional Canarian food and the local wines. You will be able to soak up the Canarian atmosphere on holiday in La Palma and really relax. The liveliest resort on La Palma is Los Cancajos where you will find a selection of bars open until later in the evening.
You will find that the two main resorts of Los Cancajos and Puerto Naos have lovely dark sandy beaches; due to the volcanic nature of La Palma. There are water sports available on the beach in Los Cancajos.

While you might enjoy the beaches of the island, why not go and explore something a little different. The La Palma biosphere reserve around Los Tilos was extended to the whole island of La Palma and is great for those who want to go hiking or travelling individually.
The island offers a variety of nature activities to get involved with. You can book jeep safari tours, boat trips, go cycling and even do a bit of dolphin spotting – always a favourite with both adults and children.
Head over to Tasca Alavasca – which is located on the main road that cuts through Los Cancajos. It’s a great place to get tapas and pintxos, especially at night time, when the bar atmosphere prevails.
If you want something that’s got a little bit of extra face for the whole family, maybe look to booking one of the lovely famiy run apartments in Playa de los Cancajos,.
Find out more and book!
Why not do something a little different on your trip – something a little individual? Take a trip to Caldera de Taburiente National Park. It is the largest erosion crater in the world so it’s a great expansive space with amazing views.
Being one of the Balearic Islands, La Palma has gorgeous weather and is surrounded by picturesque views. Take a scenic walking trail to discover more of the island by yourself, or alternatively head to Santa Cruz to do some shopping.
Santa Cruz is where the life of the party happens, so head here for the evenings. Start out with a nice sea food restaurant dishing up authentic dishes, or perhaps some Spanish tapas, and then follow on to a bar such as Rocke’s Bar on the Calle Real which has live music from local bands.
If you’re looking for something a little bit special for you and a loved one, look to book in a room at Hotel La Palma Romantica. It is exactly as it says in its name; a cute little retreat for couples in search of a romantic getaway.
Head down to Puerto de Tazacorte. It’s located on the western side of the island, almost opposite Santa Cruz de la Palma and its split into two main sections. The area houses some of the best beaches on the island and produces the best seafood for La Palma.
For something completely remarkable, you’ll want to visit the Turismo de la Palma. It’s a man made beach with fine black sand located in the semi-urban area, close to the marina of Santa Cruz de la Palma.
With the beaches and gorgeous waters, its no wonder that sunbathing and swimming is high up on the list of activities available to the island’s tourists. Book a trip or a lesson to indulge in some sailing, or diving or rent a surf board to try your hand at surfing.
Head to Apartamentos Playa Delphin. It’s a small and comfortable holiday apartment close to the beach with its gorgeous views and reasonable pricing. This is everything you need if you’re looking for a quaint little romantic getaway.
Santa Cruz is where the life and soul of the island happens. As it’s busiest area, it not only has beaches for the glorious day time where its visitors can bask in the sun, there’s some fabulous tapas bars, and music bars where you can dance the night away to the music of local bands.
If you’re into nature, why not take a trip to the small tropical forest and banana plantations on the island. They’re great expeditions where you can really discover some of the most beautiful areas. Alternatively head to El Rogue de los Muchachos for a little extra discovery.
The buildings on the island hold a lot of history. Visit the San Salvador Church, or Chapel of nuestra Senora de la Luz for some incredible brick-work which has been with the island for years. Take a visit to the local town hall for even more cultural ventures.
