In the old town of Puerto de la Cruz you will find the impressive natural salt water swimming pools designed by the famous architect/landscaper Cesar Manrique. The breath-taking Lido Martianez includes 7 pools, changing facilities, subtropical trees and plants, a huge fountain, a jacuzzi, playground equipment, restaurants, and even an underground dance hall and casino. If you like riding the waves on your holiday, there is a pretty beach to the west, Playa Jardin, with good surfing and palm trees to relax under.
If you’re planning some day trips on your holiday, Puerto De La Cruz has plenty on offer. There is a good bus service, or you can hire a car and explore the rest of Tenerife easily. There are the beautiful Botanical Gardens with their renowned orchid collection, or if you’re on a family holiday, it is home to the large zoo, Loro Parque. If you’re keen on walking holidays, it is also an excellent base for exploring Lar Orotava, La Laguna and the Anaga Mountains – with a slightly cooler climate than the south this area has perfect conditions for walking.
