  • Ancient religious buildings line the winding streets within Toledo’s city walls. The city’s centre has more than a hundred monuments. The River Tajo, which runs alongside the city walls adds to its charm and makes for a pleasant walk.
  • The Plaza de Zocodover is a picturesque scene. In the Arab period, it was home to an important market and today the square, surrounded by buildings with ornate porches, is one of the busiest places in the city.
  • Toledo is known for its roast meats and stews, and local dishes include lamb and wild game. There are a few very good Tapas bars to be found in Toledo, which are perfect for a late night bite.
  • On your holiday to Toledo, you may choose to explore the local region from this base. Oropesa is a beautiful medieval village, with lots of 16th and 17th century buildings. The town of Villacañas has some unusual underground houses called silos, which are sure to impress the kids.

  • The most important date in Toledo’s calendar is Corpus Christi. This festival has been declared of International Tourist Interest, and includes a large and vibrant procession which goes around the town centre. Definitely not to be missed.
  • The painter, El Greco, produced some his best work when he lived in Toledo. The House-Museum is a palace which exhibits some of these works, and should be visited those interested in the arts.
  • In the south of the area, the Cabañeros National Park is a protected reserve which combines woodland, meadows and wide plains. If you fancy a day out of the city, spend a relaxing afternoon here.
