The town of Dalaman is situated on Turkey’s Mediterranean Coast and exists for the purpose of the nearby Dalaman International Airport, which serves most of the nearby towns and cities including Fethiye, Marmaris and Kalkan.
Dalaman itself is a pleasant farming town with a lively centre featuring a good selection of local shops selling produce, clothing and souvenirs, and you can find a great choice restaurants and taverns mostly serving local Turkish or Mediterranean cuisine. If you are looking to get around the town also has a useful bus station that has intercity routes to some of the nearby towns and cities in Turkey, so you will never feel stuck in one place.
Some of the main attractions of the Dalaman area include its beaches with Dalaman Beach a good place to start, leading to the picturesque cove of Sarsala, or perhaps the most famous beach in the area is Iztuzu due its unspoiled nature thanks to the protected turtle habitat. There is also the Dalaman River, which is popular among sports enthusiasts especially for its white water rafting or for something a bit more peaceful you can also take a trip to the Dalyan Delta where some of the best bird watching in the area.
There are also some famous and notable sites and ruins to see nearby such as the impressive and largely untouched ruins of Kyra, Lydia and Lissia, where there is evidence of Byzantine architecture that helps to date the areas, though nothing definitive has been said of the time period in which they were thought to have been constructed.
