One of the most popular resorts along the Turkish Mediterranean Coast, Fethiye is known for its outstanding and busy harbour and fascinating history with monuments such as the remarkable ancient rock tombs carved into faces of the cliffs and a fortress built on a hill overlooking the city, built by Knights of Rhodes.
Shopping in the city is some of the best you can find in Europe, with the large market in the centre of the town where hundreds of vendors selling locally made, hand crafted goods along with fresh fruit, vegetables leather goods and jewellery; and for the best possible price be sure to practice your bargaining skills, which is considered a common place thing in Turkey. There are some more exotic stores to be found in the town including carpet stores selling some of the most beautiful carpets you will find in the world, or don’t miss the Fethiye Gold Centre if you are at least remotely interested in jewellery.
There is also plenty to see and do both in the town and nearby whether you wish to spend time at the fantastic nearby beaches, where wind surfing is the most popular choice on the Blue Lagoon, as well as a popular place for water skiing, parasailing, diving and snorkelling. Whereas some of the historical hot spots in the city include the Sarcopaghi and the Fethiye Tower, or visit the Telmessos Antique Theatre, built as an arena by the Romans in 2000 AD and often attracts tourists in large numbers.
