Ukraine is the largest country in Europe and is widely considered one of the continent’s undiscovered gems. With a variety of impressive architecture, a multitude of beautiful landscapes and an intriguing history to uncover, you will have plenty of stories to take home from your holidays to Ukraine.
Kiev, the commercial and political hub of Ukraine, is a fascinating city spilling over with things to see and do. Culture vultures should head to the Odessa National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet to see what shows are on offer, or simply to check out the fabulous architecture. Take a stroll around the beautiful, bustling Andreyevsky Spusk, Kiev’s answer to Paris’s famous Montmarte, and see the art markets run by the city’s local artists.
Make sure you find time on your Ukraine holidays to take a journey to Chernihiv. This ancient city in the north of the country gives an insight into what the area looked like before the communist regime took control, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants around this area too. Alternatively, book a day trip to Chernobyl, and witness what is left of the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster. Take a walk around the deserted town of Pripyat, and see the empty apartment blocks that were once home to 47,000 people. Holidays to Ukraine really do offer something different to the more mainstream destinations of mainland Europe.
Ukraine is a hotbed of history and culture, set amongst beautiful landscape. Why not head south to Odessa where you can hire a yacht, or take a boat trip across the black sea. These waters are home to the bottlenose dolphin among other sea life, and sightings from the water, or the surrounding cliffs, are not uncommon.
