Reading Holidays

Reading Highlights

Reading, in the south of England, is home to good shopping, a rock festival and Reading University. This lively student town has plenty going on, is within easy reach of London and the spacious countryside of the UK’s Home Counties. So if you are visiting for a few days or more, read on to find out what there is to do during your stay.

Explore Reading

  • Take advantage of the River Thames that flows through the town and into the countryside. You can enjoy the scenery of passing villages and rolling hills by boat – hire a canoe, rowing boat or take a short cruise. During the summer you can enjoy the natural wild life or regattas and races taking place on the river. The River Kennet also flows through the city. From this you can take a trip on the water through and see some of Reading’s historic sights.
  • The Reading Museum and Town Hall is fascinating inside and out. This Victorian gothic building houses eleven galleries showing arts, objects and crafts and a Concert Hall with a programme of cultural events. It is family friendly, accessible and has a friendly café.
  • If rock music festivals are your thing be sure to visit in August when one of the UK’s most famous festivals presents bands such as Metallica and the Prodigy.
  • For a great shopping experience check out the Oracle. You will find everything you need for a great day out, with a Vue cinema, restaurants over looking the river, House of Fraser and all the high street shops.
