Barrow in Furness is a historic town in the southernmost region of Cumbria on the Furness peninsula in the Irish Sea, near to Morecombe Bay. It is a great place to stay if you want to explore the Lake District and surrounding areas, while maintaining a base in the town.

  • In and around the town itself there are a number of historical sites and buildings near and around the town, one of these is sites Furness Abbey which was founded in the twelfth century and has been reshaped and extended over the centuries.
  • Another historical site is the ruins of Piel Castle which stands on an island out to sea. The castle can be reached by ferry crossing but guided tours also take visitors across the sands at high tide.
  • If you love nature then The Walney Nature Reserve is well worth a visit, located on the south part of Walney Island the reserve is home to around 300 different species of bird and animal, including a number of rare species of bird.
