Cockermouth at a Glance
Cockermouth is an old market town in the Cumbria region of northern England, just outside the Lake District. Cockermouth sits on the River Cocker and is a quintessential Cumbrian town. The town is probably most well-known for being the birthplace of the English poet William Wordsworth.

- One of the most popular tourist attractions in the town is Wordsworth House the birthplace of the famous poet, which is owned by the National Trust. The building has been restored and maintained to represent how it stood back in the 18th century.
- The Jenning’s brewery is another popular destination in the town. The brewery has been run for over 150 years and is now Cumbria’s only active brewery. The beer is still made using traditional methods and tours run regularly through the brewery.
- Nearby the town is the famous Elva Plain Stone Circle. The 15 stones are arranged in a perfect 40 metre circle and are thought to date from Neolithic times.
