• Just a 45 minute drive away from Ambleside is Cockermouth, home to the beautiful Wordsworth House and Garden. This delightful Georgian townhouse was the birthplace and childhood home of romantic poet William Wordsworth and now offers a unique opportunity to step back in time into 18th century life. There are plenty of hands-on activities, talks and walking trails so it’s a great day out for all the family.
• Perhaps the most popular pursuit in the region is walking and one popular walk is from Ambleside to Grasmere via Rydal Water; this gentle walk offers good views over Rydal Water and ends at Dove Cottage in Grasmere Village.
