Alnwick at a Glance
Developed around the impressive castle, Alnwick is a rural retreat in the county of Northumberland. Taking up approximately one third of the Northumberland National Park, it is an area of outstanding beauty that is just waiting to be explored.
Discovering Alnwick
- The main landmark on the Alnwich skyline is the magnificent castle. The massive grounds and gardens would take days to explore and the castle itself offers an interesting insight into Alnwick’s history. Within the district line miles of dramatic coastline. It may not be perfect for a day of sunbathing but is ideal for rock pooling and coastal walks.
- Alnwick’s town centre can be divided into three main streets, each of which offers a combination of familiar brands and independent retailers. Bondgate Street has been voted Britain’s Best Shopping Street and boasts everything from the butchers to the bakers.
- Alnwick hosts market days every Thursday and Saturday. Local producers head to the Market Place to showcase their latest products.
- Food and drink in Alnwick is sourced locally wherever possible and the range of restaurants found in the town centre try to use ingredients from local farms and markets. The Market Place has a good mix of restaurants, as does Fenkle Street.
- The nightlife in the town centre of Alnwick is surprisingly active. There are pubs and bars scattered over the three main streets and a good, friendly crowd head out after work and during the weekends.
