Exploring the Terrain

• Aviemore is the closest town to the Cairngorms Mountains, where the most northern ski resort in the country lives. This makes the town the perfect base for exploring the mountains, whether it is on foot, by bike or on a pair of skis.
• The Cairngorms are home to four of the five highest mountains in Scotland, so they’re a great place to do some hill walking and see some fantastic views from their peaks. Mountain biking and quad biking are popular here, with several forests to navigate through, as well as dirt tracks for some off road riding. The Laggan Wolftrax is a system of mountain bike trails built for those who prefer to explore the area on two wheels.
• If you want to do something more relaxing, have a round of golf at one of the many courses across the area, or sit by one of the pretty lochs for a spot of fishing.

Historical Sites

• There are many different traces of history across the region, both in natural and manmade forms. The Ruthven Barracks are a spectacular site, as is the Old Packhorse Bridge in Carrbridge and the Dun da Lamh fort near Laggan.
