Montrose at a Glance
Montrose is a bustling east coast town found in the depths of Scotland, just 38 miles north of Dundee and sandwiched between the mouths of both the South and the North Esk River. The town sits in the borough of Angus, and is the county’s most northern town on the coast. As well as being a center for international trade, the town is an important architectural destination, with many different buildings forming its picturesque streets.
The Basin
- The Montrose Basin is definitely worth seeing whilst you are on a holiday in Montrose. Two square miles big, it is the biggest inland salt water basin in the country, and is where you will see mute swans have made their home.
- Another natural sight worth seeing, even if the sun is not shining, is Montrose beach. A three mile long sandy stretch, its has been awarded a blue flag status. Whether you’re taking a holiday as couple or as a family, you can wander across this beautiful beach, stop off at the arcade and have an ice cream on the way.
Cultural Capital
- Those who are interested in culture will be happy in Montrose, as the town is considered the cultural capital of the Angus area. You can wander across the town in search of some of the 20 scattered sculptures, which are a mixture of modern and classical work.
- Head to the town at the end of May and you can visit the Montrose Music Festival, where many big names and local musicians have played in the past.
