Alton Holidays

Explore Alton

Not nearly as famous as its theme park neighbour, Alton Towers, the tiny town of Alton has more to offer than what meets the eye. All located along one long street, the attractions and activities in Alton make for a quaint, quiet rural retreat in Staffordshire, England.

Alton Attractions

  • It goes without saying that most people will be visiting Alton before or after seeing the heart-stopping Alton Towers theme park next door. However, Alton itself has some lovely attractions. The Curtis Museum and Art Gallery is a nice glimpse at the local artwork and there are tours available of Jane Austen’s life in the town.
  • Alton does not offer much shopping beyond the local post office and green grocer but in the side streets there are a few boutiques and craft shops. There is a Market Square in the centre where local farmers, artists and producers come to showcase what they’re best at.
  • Although the choice of food establishments in Alton isn’t massive, there are a few quirky places to grab dinner. The hotels offer fine dining for guests and non-guests while a handful of the pubs serve up some local food. The public gardens are a beautiful place for a picnic, so dig out a basket and get making sandwiches.
  • Forget sweaty nightclubs and noisy bars, in Alton a night out means going to the local for pint, or five. Soak up the friendly local atmosphere and mingle with the residents for a traditional experience of Alton.
