The Assembly Rooms have shows and entertainment on every night and St Edith’s Church is a fascinating find with an amazing spiral staircase.
• Most don’t visit Tamworth for the shopping but if visitors are in need of a spending spree, there are plenty of places to do it. The high street has a mix of household names and independent retailers while a market comes in town every weekend. The tourist sites provide a huge range of tacky souvenirs and wonderfully British tat.
• There’s a decent range of restaurants and cafes in Tamworth to tickle the tastebuds. Many of the country inns sell pub grub throughout the day and tucked away in the side streets are some lovely hidden gems. Make sure to have a drink or bite to eat in The Moat House – it used to be a lunatic asylum!
• Don’t expect to party all night in Tamworth but there is a good handful of pubs and bars open for business. Enjoy a pint with the locals or relax with a large glass of wine.
