Brecon at a Glance
Located in the very centre of Wales, Brecon is a historic market town with buckets of quaint, Welsh rural charm. The narrow winding streets and neatly stacked houses feel like a step back in history.
Discover Brecon
- Brecon is most famous for its stunning cathedral. The ancient building has been carefully preserved and is fascinating to look round. The town itself is decorated with beautiful Georgian architecture and hidden amongst the narrow streets is a collection of great museums. Get out onto the water on a canal cruise and see the Welsh town from another angle.
- Each day of the week is a different market day in Brecon. Head into the town centre on a Saturday for the craft market or choose a new addition for the farm from the livestock market that takes place twice a week. The latest addition to Brecon is the Bethel Square Shopping Centre which helps the town keep up-to-date with all things modern.
- There aren’t many big chain restaurants in Brecon, although this is part of its charm, and its easy to stumble across a lovely independent, family-run establishment. A lot of the restaurants use locally grown produce, often the stuff found at the livestock market! Expect wholesome pub grub to keep the farmers warm.
- An escape from bright lights and noisy nightclubs, Brecon offers a relaxed nightlife that will mostly involve local ale and hopefully a log fire. Mingle with the locals and settle down with a pint, there will always be at least one man with his dog at the bar.
