Explore Swindon
Swindon is a large town found in the south west of England, in the borough of Wiltshire. An eclectic blend of old and new, Swindon benefits from all the comforts that a modern town can offer, but set against the backdrop of a pretty old town on one side.
The Old Town
- Swindon’s roots begin in a little market town, which began to expand in the late 1800’s. The main market area is now known as The Old Town, and is where you will see the more traditional side of the area. You can wander through the quiet winding alleyways and stop in its courtyards to explore its mixture of quaint little inns, beautiful unique shops and stylish bars and restaurants.
- If you want to explore the history of the area further, the Swindon Museum is home to a wealth of information, as well as geological and archeological findings.
A City Vibe
- Even though Swindon is officially a town, it has the feel of a cosmopolitan city, with a busy calendar of festivals, live music performances, comedy and theatre. There are streets filled with shops to indulge in some retail therapy, an art gallery that shows the work of famed artists such as Henry Moore and L.S Lowry, and several bars and restaurants where you can sit and relax.
- Shopaholics of the area will love the nearby McArthur Glen Designer Outlet. Situated in some renovated Victorian railway engineering buildings, it is one of the continent’s largest indoor designer outlets, where there are many bargains to be found.
