• York Minster is a cathedral of Gothic design, the largest of its type in northern Europe. The building is thought to date back to the eighth century at the very least, and it sits proudly above the city skyline.

Culture in York

• York is reportedly one of the most haunted cities in the country, and, if you dare, you can take a ghost walk once the sun has set. The tours will see you walking down the city’s snickelways, the famed medieval narrow alleys, in search of some paranormal activity.
• Being branded as the ‘City of Festivals’, there are various cultural events held in York throughout the year. From festivities celebrating Vikings and music to mystery plays and Christmas fairs, there is something everyone will enjoy at some point.
