Grand Junction is the largest city in western Colorado, home to more than 50,000 inhabitants. Located on the Colorado Western Slope, the city takes its name from the junction between two local rivers, the Colorado and the Gunnison; Grand Junction is also sometimes referred to by its nickname of ‘River City’.

Attractions on a Holiday to Grand Junction

Located in a long stretch of scenic countryside, Grand Junction is central to the region known as Grand Valley. The area is famous for its fruit crops, and has been a major wine manufacturing region since the nineteenth century.

  • Not surprising then, that the city has become associated with a fine tradition of local cuisine over the years. Many of the restaurants and cafés in Grand Junction serve dishes produced from local crops, and these will often be accompanied by samples of the region’s wines. There are even a few wineries that open their doors to the public – here you’ll be able to learn about the process of producing wine and enjoy a tipple!

  • Around the city centre of Grand Junction, visitors will be able to enjoy some great opportunities for shopping, as well as a number of museums and galleries. Nearby you’ll also be able to visit the famous Country Jam Ranch, which hosts the annual music festival known as Country Jam.

    There are some good options for excursions, while on holiday Grand Junction – particularly for fans of the great outdoors. Here in the Western Slope area of Colorado, you’ll find a great range of outdoor pursuits, and adventure sports – hiking enthusiasts will be delighted with the rugged, rural landscape of the area, while there are also opportunities for exciting pastimes such as horse riding, mountain biking and even whitewater rafting!

    Alternatively, you could head northeast towards Denver, if you’re looking for the bright lights and dazzling entertainment of the big city. Denver is a famously friendly city, and this Colorado State Capitol boasts a wide selection of exciting attractions. It’s quite a long drive though, so if you do plan to visit, it’ll be worth looking at somewhere to stay overnight.
