• The beaches are the main draw to Waikiki, with some six beaches stretching the length of the district. There is Kahanamoku Beach; Fort DeRussy Beach, which has a little coral reef making it great for snorkelling; Royal Manoa Beach, which is the most popular; Kuhio beach, which has an offshore retaining wall, making it a good place for families and beginning surfers; and then there are Queens Surf and San Souci beaches.
• Take a visit to Diamond Head. A large volcanic crater, which is at the far end of the Waikiki district, it is an iconic landmark of Hawaii. With access to the top, you will find terrific views of the entire city of Honolulu before you.
• All along the beaches of Waikiki, you will find places to rent surfboards; so when in Hawaii, do as the Hawaiians! It’s great fun, and the surf in Waikiki is the best place to learn, as the tides aren’t as strong and the waves not too large.
• Waikiki is also home to the Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium. This is a great place to spend the day, looking at exotic animals, native to Hawaii and some from abroad.
• Much of Honolulu’s nightlife is right in Waikiki. Stretching along Kuhio Avenue, you will find bars and restaurants, so if you are craving a night out under the warm Hawaiian moon, then you’ll want to be nowhere else.
