The ski resort is the biggest attraction during Lincoln’s cold winter season. It benefits from hosting the Lincoln Highland Games, a nod to its Scottish heritage. The winter season is similar to European ski resorts, running between December and April.
Despite this, it is more popular with visitors during the warmer summer months, when visitors flock to the National Forest, high in the hills. As the town is at altitude, the summer months are pleasantly warm rather than hot. The Whale’s Tale Water Park is popular with summer visitors, and is ideal for family groups with its wide range of water rides and kids area.
If you prefer to stay on dry land, the Hobo Railroad is definitely worth a visit. Various excursions can be taken here and the train runs from Lincoln to Tilton, a distance of some 54 miles. One of the stops is Weirs Beach, where visitors can spend the day on the sands at Lake Winnipesaukee. Take a trip to the pier, take in a movie at the drive-in or visit the marina. The railroad also links with the Polar Express and is a major attraction during the winter.
New England is famous in the US for its Fall Season, when the falling leaves attract visitors from neighbouring New Hampshire and beyond. Known as ‘leaf peeping’, visitors can enjoy the gorgeous colours and smells a New England fall has to offer.
For art lovers, White Mountain Art is worth seeing. This is a collection of paintings from the 19th Century, when over 400 artists painted the local mountain scenery and provides a unique history of the area.
