- Avila National Park is known as the ‘green lung’ of Caracas. It is home to much varied flora and fauna and; over 100 butterfly species, approximately 120 mammal species, 20 amphibians, 30 reptiles and 500 bird species, a must see for those nature enthusiasts visiting the region.
- Museo de Arte Contemporáneo is home to permanent collections of the conceptual works of Venezuelan star Jesús Soto, as well as a small but high quality collection of singular works by such modern masters as Picasso, Red Grooms, Henry Moore, Joan Miró, and Francis Bacon. Both a captivating and educational day out.
- Casa Natal and Museo Bolívar are side by side attractions, housed in two old colonial era homes that make up the restored birthplace of Simón Bolívar and a modest museum of memorabilia and historic items related to El Libertador.
- Catedral anchors the eastern end of Plaza Bolívar, and is the national cathedral. The present-day church was built between 1665 and 1713, after the original building was destroyed in the 1641 earthquake. A spectacular piece of architecture, highly revered by the local people.
- Step back in time with a visit to El Hatillo. Set in the rolling hills of Caracas’ heterogeneous southern suburbs, the 16th century town of El Hatillo comprises narrow streets and a pretty plaza still retaining many of their colonial buildings, now painted in sugary, bright colours and filled with interesting art galleries, craft shops and quality restaurants.

- A day spent at Parque de Recreación Cuevas Del Indio, a favourite rock climbing spot; local climbers flock here on the weekend. It’s 9km southeast of the city centre.
- Riding the teleférico (cable car) to the summit of El Ávila will reveal a spectacular panorama.
- Follow the footsteps of the nation’s liberator, Simón Bolívar, from cradle (Casa Natal de Bolívar) to grave (Panteón Nacional) on a walking tour.
