Top Attractions in Isla Margarita
- A few blocks east of Porlamar's shady Plaza Bolívar is the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Francisco Narváez. Here you'll find a permanent collection of Narváez's works, plus a rotating exhibit of national and international artworks.
- A giant Ferris wheel leads you to the island's largest amusement park, Diverland. There are 16 attractions, including a roller coaster and water slide.

Isla Margarita Highlights
- Porlamar is the island's centre of commerce. Since it was granted free-port status in 1973, its store-lined avenues have been mobbed with tourists in search of tax-free bargains. Porlamar is also the most cosmopolitan city on Isla Margarita, boasting many restaurants, bars, clubs, and casinos.
- Easily the most famous and crowded beach on the island, palm-lined Playa El Agua is a remarkable stretch of fine white sand that runs along the coast a short drive north of Pampatar. For much of its 4-km (2-mi) length, restaurants and bars lure sunbathers with blaring salsa music and ice-cold beers.
- The mangrove forests of Parque Nacional Laguna de la Restinga cover the 20km thread of sand that makes up the tenuous link between the main part of the island and the Península de Macanao. Here you'll find a variety of colourful birds, such as the scarlet ibis. The park has an unspoiled beach and a sprinkling of fishermen's huts where you can buy the catch of the day.
